Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in BrayBree Publishing!

We welcome book-length, non-fiction manuscripts from first-time and established authors relating to the people, culture, and history of the South (especially unique or unpublished local and regional history). At this time, we are actively seeking books meeting this criteria about the Civil War and Tennessee history.

First, we would like to know more about you and your proposed book project. Please send us a short initial query letter containing the following information:

  • Biographical information about yourself (education, interests, writing experience, and other pertinent information).
  • A brief synopsis and table of contents, either in Word or PDF format. Please tell us about your book, why you chose this subject, what makes your work unique compared to similar works, how much work you’ve done on the manuscript, and when you expected to be completed.
  • The first three chapters of your manuscript.

Please do NOT send the manuscript at this stage.

If your proposal piques our interest, we will contact you for further details and sample chapters. While BrayBree publishes books on local history, some topics (such as family genealogies and personal memoirs) may be too limited for us to publish and market in a traditional manner. In such cases, we can offer an alternative publishing plan.

We utilize the Chicago Manual of Style (16th Edition) for formatting. For scholarly works, we prefer using footnotes instead of endnotes for easy reference.

Please send your book proposal by email or by regular mail to:

Include a self-addressed stamp envelope large enough to accommodate your proposal materials if you would like them mailed back to you.

Please allow up to six to eight weeks for us to review your information and respond.
